Sleep Well

In order for us to function as our best we need to have a minimum of 7-8 hours sleep a night. We also get the best rest during the hours of 10pm to 12am. I know for my part a good night's sleep is very important to me. I do my utmost to stick to these guidelines.

Ultimately it is about getting into good, healthy habits. Habits take around 28 days to change. This was discovered when the astronauts were being trained to up into space, they were given special glasses to make everything seem upside down. It took the first astronaut 28 days to turn the image the right way up in his head and adjust to it whilst it took the others 30 days.

For us to change a 'habit of a life time' it is going to take at least that! We firstly need to have a strong reason for needing to change. The benefits have to outweigh the discomfort of change.

There are some other great tips about how to get a good night's sleep and again, if you value the benefits, then it's worth practising these good habits.

  • Start to wind down half an hour before going to bed
  • Don't read or watch anything too mentally stimulating (makes sense!)
  • Don't drink any caffeine after 5-6pm
  • Keep your bedroom cool during the night, one of the main things that wake us up, we get too hot in bed.
